Asia University's Department of Interior Design shone brightly in the latest edition of the globally renowned creative design awards, the "2023 London International Creative Competition" (LICC)! Chiao-Hui Yu 's work, "Hemerocallis," emerged as the global champion, winning "the Best Winners in Decorate(Interior)Category" and setting a new record for the department in winning the top accolade from LICC. Additionally, four other students and four works received "Interior Design Excellence Awards," while one student and one work received an "Honorable Mention Award," totaling six major awards.

Sheng-Cheng Shih, the Director of Asia University's Department of Interior Design, stated that LICC was founded by renowned artists Launa Bacon and Hossein Farmani of the global Farmani Group. Since 2006, LICC has been rewarding outstanding talents in the field of art globally, attracting designers from over 65 countries each year to participate in this prestigious event. Among the department's six students who stood out in this fiercely competitive global event, they initially won five "Winners" awards in the interior design category. Then, after rigorous review by the jury, Chiao-Hui Yu 's "Hemerocallis" work emerged victorious, receiving the only global annual championship award. In addition to receiving substantial prize money and a trophy, it also gained exposure on the LICC website, allowing the world to see her masterpiece, which is truly remarkable. The department continues to support and encourage students to participate in international competitions, enabling them to view design from higher and broader perspectives, stepping onto the world stage as international interior designers.

Chiao-Hui Yu explained that the design concept of her award-winning work, "Hemerocallis," revolves around the interior space of a clinic where the owner and three cats live together. The right angles of the space are rounded and stacked repeatedly, turning a single arc into smooth curves. Through design techniques, these curves extend to the shapes of the space's surfaces, allowing customers to experience the design ingenuity of curves in the interior space, thereby reducing the tension associated with clinics for both humans and pets and creating many distinct spaces.

Additionally, Jia-Hao Zhang 's " Time flies ", Yu-Han Chen 's "“Years of Water.”", Yi-Tong Lin 's " Celsius °C ", and He-Xiang Chang 's " AIM FOR ZERO " were awarded the "Winners in Decorate(Interior)Category" by the LICC. Guan-Hao Lai 's "Keep Moving " was selected for the "Shortlist in Decorate(interior)Category".

Jia-Hao Zhang explained that his work, " Time flies," presents space for selling watches, watch repair services, watch art exhibitions, and watch assembly experiences. Customers can not only purchase products but also experience and appreciate art. The shaping and transformation of space between volumes, combinations, intersections, and complements generate new interior spatial design.

Yu-Han Chen stated that her work, " Years of Water," reflects the rich and diverse resources of the western part of Taiwan. However, apart from traditional cuisines, cultural history, customs, ceramics, and woodcarving, there is a lack of comprehensive urban planning, iconic buildings, and distinctive leisure attractions, lacking the catalyst for design change. Therefore, she started the design from the origin of mountains, rivers, and mountains, creating a unique, all-age interactive space. The elements inserted into the design are green energy design methods, demonstrated through architectural height differences, vertical water flow power generation, and light-guiding system design.

Yi-Tong Lin 's work, " Celsius °C," originates from the concept of the old warehouse form of the Taichung Cultural and Creative Industrial Park, combined with the Dongguang Park Bicycle Trail, to round off the design form's outline. Green plants are introduced into the indoor space, generating internal and external integration through blending lines. Through photography and painting, the temperature of each moment is recorded, injecting new vitality into the interior space.

He-Xiang Chang stated that his work, "Aim for Zero," aims to start change from the most common living environment of humans, considering sunlight, air, and water, and how to use these resources to improve environmental changes, thereby becoming a better sustainable cycle and maximizing the efficiency of these three elements. The design goal is a sustainable building that circulates on its own, achieving sustainable development through passive design techniques, from human all-age space to the concept of sustainable circulation of economy and architectural materials.

Instructors Shi-Yuan Liu and Chih-Hua Wang, who guided the design works, expressed that the award-winning students' works were completed during the teaching process of the third-year interior design course. They combined interior design concepts with sustainable creative thinking and intelligent applications, transforming design composition into design creation sources. From the works, one can see the students' design growth and transformation. They continuously encourage students to participate in international competitions to stimulate innovation and creative ideas constantly. The outstanding works they exhibited also grasp global trends.
